The "Bol"

Bollevaer

This vessel has an SSRP plaque on board from a previous registration, but is now “registered” in Category X in the Register and is therefore designated as “Inactive.” The vessel and its owner are currently NOT “actively” affiliated with the SSRP as a preservation organization. The current owner is not (yet) listed in our records. Participation in events that require the vessel and the owner to be affiliated with the same Preservation Organization as part of the FVEN is therefore NOT possible through the SSRP.

This means that the vessel is still part of the registration process (re-registration) or—as is the case for most vessels—the owner has not re-registered the vessel and therefore does not pay the annual fee to the SSRP for registration in the Register. Any information provided regarding the vessel and former owners usually dates from the period of previous “active” registrations and is likely incomplete and possibly incorrect. Since this vessel does not demonstrably meet the SSRP’s criteria, the KNWV cannot issue a Measurement Certificate for it.

However, in line with the SSRP’s objective of documenting the entire history of vessels listed in the Register, the Ship List does include the information available in the Register’s archives regarding this once-registered vessel, as well as brief details about its (former) owners.

Do you have information about this ship, or are you the owner and would you like to “reactivate” its registration? Please let us know!

One of the most popular boats to have been launched at the Kooiman and de Vries shipyard—later owned by Rijnsoever—in Deil on the Linge is the Vollenhovense Bol. The ship’s popularity among flat-bottomed sailors stems from the fact that it is available in several sizes, is easy to handle and maneuverable, has a spacious design across its various lengths, requires relatively little maintenance due to its steel construction, and can be considered reasonably priced. The design is by the renowned naval architect Ir. J.K. Gipon, who, starting in the 1950s, designed a large number of modern steel round-bottomed and flat-bottomed yachts. The design he created is in line with the existing boat type of the same name.

The Vollenhoven round-bottomed yacht “Bollevaer” was built in 1993 by Van Rijnsoever. The client was J. Heule of Aerdenhout, who named her “Elise J.C.” at her launch.
